1st Friday welcomes Sumter County educators

AMERICUS — On Friday, Aug. 4, Americus will hold its monthly “First Friday” downtown-wide open house. This First Friday, Americus Main Street welcomes all of the Sumter County educators to come and see what downtown Americus is all about! Downtown merchants will have discounts, samples, giveaways, and more! Festivities begin at 5 p.m. with most shops and businesses staying open until 8 p.m. “First Friday After Dark” continues the festivities into the night after 8 p.m.
Everyone is invited to come experience the city’s art, music, food, wares and crafts. The Americus Street Trolley will provide attendees transportation during the event, making a loop of the event provided by Americus Main Street, free of charge. All activities, exhibits and performances are free of charge. Maps and playbills detailing the evening’s events will be available at participating locations. Local artwork will be on display throughout downtown. The Americus Center for the Arts invites everyone to come in, be a part of their art show and demonstrations, and experience artist, Brita Hobbs as she will be doing quick sketch portraits! The historic Rylander Theatre will be showing the film “The Breakfast Club” starting at 7pm. Mobile Glassblowing Studios will host a drawing for a glass blowing workshop for two, along with glassblowing demonstrations and live music.
Eat, drink, and listen to live music Friday night in downtown Americus! Café Campesino, Center Stage Market, Bittersweet Bookstore and Coffeehouse, and Americus Snoball & Shaved Ice Co. will all have great food and drinks; live music at select locations.
Attendees can also take advantage of great shopping deals downtown on Friday night. The Kinnebrew Company, Americus Welcome Center, The Maze, and Merle Norman Cosmetic Studio will be open late. There will be discounts such as $1 items at Merle Norman, $5 Friday at The Maze, and 75 percent off select items at the Welcome Center!
This event is organized by Americus Main Street and the City of Americus. One of the goals is to cultivate downtown Americus’ economic and cultural enrichment by providing a platform for entertainment and social engagement to the general public on a regular basis.
