AMERICUS — Americus Main Street (AMS) constantly seeks ways to improve the shopper experience in Downtown Americus. The Design Committee of Americus Main Street has collaborated with the One Sumter Economic Development Foundation Inc. to fund a speaker system for downtown — a wireless StreetSounds® audio system provided by AirNetix, LLC of Smyrna.
Main Street director, Patrick Kay, was intrigued by a demonstration of the system by AirNetix, LLC, convinced the Main Street stakeholders that this would be a good investment in downtown, and later submitted a funding request to the One Sumter Economic Development Foundation. Through funding from One Sumter, Americus Main Street purchased 10 sets of speakers to place throughout the downtown. AMS has a goal of purchasing speakers each year until there is music playing all over downtown.
Mike Hooper, president of AirNetix, LLC said, “Americus has a vision for growth and development, and understands the value of having music on Main Street. They also have the perfect venue, with shops and restaurants surrounding the central Municipal Building and Welcome Center; the music helps create a ‘vibe’ that brings people to the downtown area. The city plans to use the system to make ‘live’ announcements for their numerous festivals, farmers’ markets, and parades. Since the StreetSounds system is wireless, it offers ways to quickly and easily add music to a downtown area without having to dig up sidewalks or run cables. We appreciate the opportunity to work with such a forward-thinking group of city leaders.”
StreetSounds® systems have been installed in Laurens, S.C., Kernersville, N.C., Smyrna, Ga., Franklin, Ky., and now, Americus. This new innovative system adds ambiance to the shopping and dining experience of downtown Americus.
“We’ve received nothing but positive comments about the new system. Customers really enjoy it,” says Richelle Bivins, board member of Americus Main Street.
