SGTC cosmetology program hosts hairstyling competition

AMERICUS — Frances Gill of Parrott was the winner of the South Georgia Technical College (SGTC) cosmetology hairstyling competition held recently on the Americus campus. Her model was Savannah Gil. Morgan Whaley of Americus earned second prize with her model Ella Hawkins, and Tatum Brown of Baconton finished in third place. Kambry Curles was her model. Each of the top three winners received engraved commemorative plaques.
The SGTC annual hairstyling competition gives the college’s cosmetology students the opportunity to show off the skills learned in the classroom and compete for top recognition among their classmates. SGTC cosmetology instructor Dorothea Lusane-McKenzie, lab instructor Airel Rolle and instructor trainee Jessakeetha Maddox coordinated the competition for their students.
The students styled models of their choice and got creative with innovative and interesting hairstyles. Judges for the competition used the international 30-point rating system to select the winners.
The fourth-place winner of the competition was Ambrea Hill of Arlington with model Trenidee Sanford. Jenna Gill of Ellaville took fifth place with her model, Trinity Jenkins. The sixth-place spot went to Jamirah Johnson of Albany with her model, Carlexia Wiggins.
Other competitors and their models included Scotti Jo Coffee of Cordele, model Kimberly Hernandez; Adrianna Scarborough of Edison, model Mackenzie Waddell; Adrionna Porter of Americus, model Zabrina Porter; Tyvonna Clark of Byromville, model Kiyasha Lewis; Yamilette Martinez of Oglethorpe, model Rachael Johnson; Demetra Williams of Americus, model Kearria Westbrook; and Naquesha Hurley of Americus, model Ja’niya Hurley.
Judges for the competition included Audrey Pacetti Wellons from Shear Heaven, Patricia McClary Harris from G Styles, and Laura Faircloth from A Cut Above.
