Aug. 10-21

• Firefighters responded to 40 calls for medical assistance.
• Firefighters responded to a report of a structure fire on Brookdale Drive. They found moderate smoke coming from a side doorway and upon entry found heavy smoke inside structure. No fire was found because it had self-extinguished due to oxygen-deficient atmosphere, according to the report. The structure, an Americus Housing Authority unit, was ventilated. Georgia Power and Housing Authority were notified.
• Firefighters responded to a traffic accident at Tripp and Parkers streets.
• Firefighters responded to a traffic accident at East Forsyth and Manhattan streets.
• Firefighters responded to an alarm in William B. King Drive. The system was being tested.
• Firefighters responded to Willet Way to a report of a possible vehicle fire. There were no visible flames but they used a residential garden hose to cool down the vehicle.
• Firefighters responded to 16th Green to the report of a possible structure fire. There was no fire but the occupant said the stove was arcing. Occupant was advised to notify an electrician and the landlord.
• Firefighters responded to a report of a tree on a pole at Cotton Avenue and Wheeler Street. No incident was found.
• Firefighters responded to a traffic accident at Forsyth Street and Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard.
• Firefighters responded to a smoke alarm at a Habitat for Humanity building at 314 N. Dudley St. No hazards were found.
• Firefighters responded to Benjamin Avenue to a report of a burning wire odor in the bathroom. No hazards were found. Occupant was told to notify the Housing Authority.
• Firefighters responded to Rawley Road to a report of wires down. They found power lines lying across the road and contacted Georgia Power.
• Firefighters responded to an alarm on Elm Avenue which was activated by cooking.
• Firefighters responded to East Dodson Street to a report of cable line hanging low. They removed it from the roadway after being unable to contact the cable company.
• Firefighters responded to Second Montgomery Street to a report of a line down in a resident’s front yard. They found a cable line in the yard and Mediacom was notified.
• Firefighters stood by during a football game at Southland Academy.
• Firefighters responded to Lewis Lowe Court to a report of a wall feeling hot. No hazards were found.
• Firefighters responded to Post Way at the request of the Americus Police Department which needed assistance in entering a residence where neighbors had not heard from the resident for about three days. Fire personnel looked in a window and saw a possibly deceased person and two dogs. The coroner and animal control were notified and entrance was made. The dogs were removed by animal control and the body was turned over to the coroner.
• Firefighters responded  to a traffic accident on East Lamar Street.
