Local 4-H’ers receive top awards

Americus — Sumter 4-H’ers received top honors for outstanding achievements in 4-H for the past year at the Annual 4-H Awards Program on Aug. 3. Anjum Alam and Lauren Busman did a great job presiding over the program and Shazia Alam recognized special guest including Dr. Michael Busman and Edith Ann Green with Sumter County School Board, Elizabeth Kuipers, Ph.D., principal at Furlow Charter School and many other special guests to include parents and volunteers who attended the program. Trenton Floyd did an excellent job presenting his first-place award winning 4-H Public Speaking speech to guests during the program.
Special awards were presented to 4-H’ers participating in individual and team competitions. Aaron Jenkins, Shazia Alam, Julia Floyd, and Trenton Floyd received first place trophies for District Project Achievement. Hinano Tomlinson, Kate Busman, Endiya Brown, Melinda Busman, Anjum Alam, Paris Eberhardt, Emily Kent, and Cadence Todd received second-place trophies for District Project Achievement. Ryan Mournighan, Anna Moates, Lauren Busman, Dilan Hudson, Savannah Lowell, Emily McCorkle, and Charliyah Moses were awarded third-place trophies for District Project Achievement. All other Project Achievement participants received special project pins and certificates. Georgia National Fair winners and community service project participants were also recognized and received project pins and certificates.
Anjum Alam competed and won first place in the Human Development project at State 4-H Congress, making her a Master 4-H’er, the highest level one can achieve in 4-H. She will attend the National 4-H Congress in November. Anjum Alam was recognized at the awards program for earning Master 4-H status and presented a plaque for her achievement. Shazia Alam was recognized and awarded with a plaque for her project work and placing third in the Georgia 4-H Leadership in Action Part I. Lauren Busman and Anjum Alam were recipients of the I Dare You Award from the American Youth Foundation. Among the outstanding 4-H’ers, Anjum Alam was named Outstanding Senior 4-H’er, Shazia Alam was named Outstanding Junior 4-H’er, Paris Eberhardt was name Outstanding Cloverleaf and Courtney Coley was the Outstanding 4-H Teen Leader of the Year. Anna Moates was recognized as the Outstanding 4-H’er of the Year for Sumter County 4-H and Jordan Parker was recognized as Sumter County 4-H’s Outstanding Volunteer of Year.
