(Aug. 22-Sept. 5)

• Firefighters responded to 51 calls for medical assistance.
• Firefighters responded to a traffic accident at Crawford and Jefferson streets.
• Firefighters responded to tree hanging on wires on East Jefferson Street. A telephone line was removed from a tree limb by Georgia Power.
• Firefighters responded to an alarm on Ashby Street. It was accidentally activated by the home owner.
• Firefighters responded to a traffic accident at Industrial Boulevard and Southerfield Road.
• Firefighters responded to a traffic accident on South Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard.
• Firefighters responded to a traffic accident on East Lamar Street.
• Firefighters responded to a cooking fire on Mayo Street. They found a small fire in the kitchen where a pot had been left on the stove which overheated and activated the sprinkler system. They assisted in removing water from the residence.
• Firefighters responded to a report of lines down at Rees Park and Elm Avenue. They removed a cable line which was hanging over the roadway.
• Firefighters stood by for a football game at Americus Sumter High School.
• Firefighters responded to a report of a gas odor on Rucker Street. The incident was not found.
• Firefighters responded to Peggyanne Drive where they assisted an invalid.
• Firefighters responded to a traffic accident at Crawford and Forsyth streets.
• Firefighters responded to an alarm on Swett Avenue, which turned out to be a false alarm.
• Firefighters responded to a traffic accident on Bessie Mays Circle.
• Firefighters responded to Southerfield Road to a report of a traffic accident. They found there was no accident but a vehicle had rolled backward down a hill.
• Firefighters responded to Eckles Road to a report of a power line down. Upon arrival, Georgia Power was already on the scene.
• Firefighters responded to a report of a blown transformer on Andrews Drive. They found a squirrel at the bottom of the light pole that might have caused the problem. Georgia Power was advised.
• Firefighters responded to Magnolia Street to a report of a possible structure fire. They found a heavily burned panel box inside. They removed smoke from the structure and Georgia Power cut the electricity.
• Firefighters responded to Knollwood Drive to help a resident gain entry to his apartment.
• Firefighters responded to a traffic accident at Industrial Boulevard and Southerfield Road.
• Firefighters stood by for a football game at Americus Sumter High School.
• Firefighters stood by for a football game at Southland Academy.
• Firefighters responded to a traffic accident on Manhattan Street.
• Firefighters responded to an alarm in Habitat Street. It was a malfunction; no fire.

• Firefighters responded to Freeman Avenue and Ga. Highway 49 South to a report of a tree over the roadway. They removed it.
• Firefighters responded to an alarm on Sunset Park Drive.
