PLAINS — A weekend wedding reception in Plains turned ugly when two guests became involved in a physical and verbal altercation.
According to Plains Police Chief David Johnson, his department responded at the request of the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office to a report of a fight at 106 Main St., the Plains Community Center, just after 10 p.m. Saturday. The chief confirmed that alcohol was a factor in the incident. He said this is the first such incident to be reported at the venue.

As of midday Tuesday, Hernandez was still in the Sumter County Jail, according to jail officials. Also arrested was David Norman Wilmer, 44, of Slidell, La. (the Sumter County Jail Roster lists his address as Box Springs, Ga.). He is charged with simple battery, obstruction of law enforcement officers and disorderly conduct. He was released on bond on Monday, according to jail officials.
