Students in Helen Bottu’s eighth-grade science classes at Sumter County Middle School designed two dimensional models of atoms using paper plates and beads. The students had to place the correct number of protons, electrons, and neutrons in the appropriate locations. Beads representing the protons, neutrons, and electrons were color coded and arranged by size. Shown, from left, are Emachiah Welborn, Madison Smith, Teigan Pepito, Tyler Pritchard.
