(Dec. 28-Jan. 5)

• Firefighters responded to 27 calls for medical assistance.
•  Firefighters responded to Crumpton Drive as automatic aid to Sumter County Fire & Rescue to the report of a structure fire. They were advised an outlet in the rear bedroom had been on fire or arcing. Power was shut off and investigation showed no other hazards.
• Firefighters responded to East Lamar Street to an unknown problem. No incident was found.
• Firefighters responded to a traffic accident on East Lamar Street.
• Firefighters responded to Norman Cole Street to a report of gas smell inside a residence near a heating furnace. Investigation revealed no leaks.
• Firefighters responded to Brady Road to a report of a semi-trick on fire. They found a concrete truck, inside a gated area, with cab and engine on fire. Entry was gained and the fire was extinguished by Sumter County Fire & Rescue.
• Firefighters responded to an alarm on Sheffield Street. No hazards were found.
• Firefighters responded to a traffic accident at South Jackson and West College streets.
• Firefighters responded to a traffic accident at North Lee and Prince streets.
• Firefighters responded to a traffic accident at East Jefferson and Poplar streets.
• Firefighters responded to Graystone Drive to a report of a mobile home fire. They found a fire in the clothes dryer. After turning off all breakers, they use a water can to extinguish the fire.
• Firefighters responded to a traffic accident on East Lama Street.
• Firefighters responded to Pineview Place to a gas smell in a residence. No hazards were found.
• Firefighters responded to Lorraine Avenue and East Jefferson Street to a small grass fire which they extinguished.
• Firefighters responded to Bozeman Circle to a report or a trash can fire. They used a water hose to extinguish it.
• Firefighters responded to Bozeman Circle to a small fire on the front porch that was reported by a passing police officer. After extinguishing it, they found the bucket contained cigarette butts that had ignited.
• Firefighters responded to a traffic accident at Crawford Street and Lorraine Avenue.
• Firefighters responded to an alarm on South Hampton Street. The occupants had accidentally activated the smoke alarm while cooking.
• Firefighters responded to a report of an electrical fire on Packinghouse Road. They found fire coming from the outside meter base of an electrical box. The scene was turned over to Sumter County Fire & Rescue.
• Firefighters responded to an alarm at Austin Urethane, 122 Crisp Drive. No hazards were found.

• Chester A. Mann, 36, of 741-A Middle River Road, Americus; probation violation, misdemeanor theft by shoplifting, giving false name/address or birth date to law enforcement officer, felony theft by taking, felony theft by deception, and criminal trespass; jailed. (Nov. 20)
