Library Play: The Sumter County Friends of the Public Library will host its 29th annual theater event Jan. 27 & 28. Call Lake Blackshear Regional Library at (229) 924-8091 for more information.
Tree Sale: The 2018 Americus Kiwanis Club Tree Sale is from 8-11 a.m. Feb. 3 at Lenny’s Market and in the Clinic Drug Store parking lot. Dogwoods and crepe myrtles are available for $1 each.
Kold Run/Walk: The Americus Kiwanis Club’s annual Kold Run and Walk is at 8 a.m. Feb. 10 starting in the back parking lot of the Georgia Southwestern State University Education Building. Registration is $25 prior to Feb. 9 and $30 on event day. All participants receive a Kool Kiwanis imprinted sports bag containing goodies. Fantastic door prizes also available. The top three male and female finishers in each of 15 age groups will receive awards, as well as Overall Master Male and Female. Registration and packet pickup is from 6:30-7:30 a.m. event day. Authority Meeting: The Joint (Sumter, Macon and Webster counties) Development Authority meets at 4 p.m. Feb. 15 at the Rees Park Economic Development Center. The annual election of officers will be held and quarterly updates. Mary Beth Bass of the One Sumter Economic Development Foundation will share about the College and Career Academy Initiative Sumter County is undertaking. The meeting is open to the public.
Furlow Applications: Furlow Charter School is accepting applications from students entering grades 5K-11 for the 2018-19 academic school year. The school is open to all children of Sumter County (based on availability), does not charge tuition, and does not have special entrance requirements. Applications for enrollment are available at the school at 63 Valley Drive in Americus or can be downloaded from the FCS website, www.furlowcharterschool.org. Applications are available in both English and Spanish and must be completed and turned in by 5 p.m. Feb. 14.
Support Group: Innovative Senior Solutions announces “Flint River CARE- NET Support Group,” a care-net collaboration between Rosalynn Carter Institute for Caregiving. A ribbon cutting, and first meeting will be from noon-1:30 p.m. March 20 at the Rosalynn Carter Institute in Americus. Lunch will be served during this meeting time. Keynote speaker is Gayle Alston, program director of RCI, vendors, and more. The CARE-NET meeting is a volunteer coalition of professional and family caregivers who meet quarterly and carry out educational projects, resource development and advocacy for all types of caregivers in the eight counties of Sumter, Randolph, Crisp, Dooly, Macon, Webster, Schley and Clay.

Anonymous Crime Tipline: The Americus Police Department has an anonymous crime tip line 924-4102. Citizens can leave information for police about crime in their neighborhood or other areas. The calls are completely anonymous.
Faith Clinic: Sumter Faith Clinic is a non-profit organization directed at meeting the spiritual and health care needs of residents of Sumter County who do not have health insurance or an affordable means to health care. Services include basic, non-emergent medical care of acute conditions as well as treatment of some chronic conditions. Services are delivered by volunteers. The clinic is located at 127 S. Jackson St. next to First Presbyterian Church. Hours of operation are 6-9 p.m. Mondays and 1-5 p.m. Thursdays.

Water Restrictions: The City of Americus has implemented the following water restrictions, established by the State Environmental Protection Division. Outdoor water use for the purpose of planting, growing, managing, or maintaining ground cover, trees, shrubs, or other plants is allowed daily, but limited to between the hours of 4 p.m. and 10 a.m. Outdoor water use for any purposes other than watering of plants, such as power washing or residential car washing, is limited to an odd/even address watering schedule. Odd numbered addresses can water on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Sundays. Even numbered addresses are allowed to water on Mondays, Wednesdays and Saturdays. Volunteers Needed: SOWEGA Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA), office serving a six-county area, needs volunteers to work with abused and neglected children who are involved in the court system. Adult Reading Skills: Adult Literacy Action Inc. has several openings for adult individuals interested in improving their reading skills. The organization is affiliated with the Lake Blackshear Regional Library. Volunteer tutors are available to work with individuals on a one-on-one basis.
