AMERICUS — Mrs. Mary Elizabeth “Beth” Norton Bowden passed away on her 57th birthday, Jan. 28, 2018, at her home in Americus.

Services are planned for 2 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 31, from the chapel of Hancock Funeral Home, 427 S. Lee St., with Pastor R.T. Beverly officiating. Interment will be private.

The family will receive friends between the hours of 1 and 2 p.m. on Wednesday at Hancock Funeral Home.

Born Jan. 28, 1961, in Americus, she was a daughter of the late Frederick Donnell “Square” Norton and the late Martha Jim Ross Norton. Beth was an LPN, having worked at Sumter County Correctional Institute, Immigration/Customs Enforcement, Magnolia Manor Nursing Center, and Visiting Nurses. She loved the outdoors, camping and fishing, and she especially loved spending time with her grandchildren.

Survivors include her husband, John F. Bowden; son, John “Bud” Norton (Katie); brother, Donnie Norton (Susan); sister, Becky Norton (Phillip); grandchildren: Meaghan Norton, Caitlyn Cowart, Gabe Norton, Nikki Norton, Grayson Norton, Riley Norton, Bella Norton, and Lillie Norton; nephews: James Bowden, Marty Bowden, Matthew Drake, and Eli Norton; brothers-in-law: Floyd L. Bowden, Raymond L. Millwood, and Michael W. Millwood; and step-children: Jonathan E. Bowden, Jeremy M. Bowden, and Jessica L. Bowden, and Laurie Luckern Bowden.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her grandmother, Mattie Will McLeod, and by a nephew, Jonathan E. Drake.
