AMERICUS — On Friday, March 2, Americus will hold its monthly “First Friday” downtown-wide open house. Americus Main Street will celebrate the rich agriculture of Georgia’s Sumter County with a “Sumter Grown” theme. Festivities begin at 5 p.m. with most shops and businesses staying open until 8 p.m. “First Friday after Dark” continues the festivities into the night after 8 p.m.
Businesses throughout downtown will be open late with art shows, food samples, shopping discounts, and more! There will also be free trolley rides from 6-9 p.m. sponsored by Americus Main Street. In honor of the agriculture theme, Sumter County farmers have been asked to bring their tractors downtown for a tractor parade and a blessing. Attendees will have the opportunity to meet the farmer and learn about their tractors, what the tractor harvests, and the processes necessary to provide Georgia’s homegrown produce.
The Rylander Theatre will be hosting an Americus Independent Film Festival. Mobile Glassblowing Studios have glassblowing demonstrations and a Music Jam! The Maze, Classy 5 Boutique, and Minick Interiors will offer discounts and special sales. The Americus Welcome Center will be open with new Georgia’s Sumter County branded items for sale. The Huss Foundation will host GSW art students who will exhibit their artwork. Attendees can enjoy live music at JJ’s Wings and Things where Southern Skies will be performing at 9 p.m.
Get ready for a great evening in downtown Americus. Enjoy dinner at one of the restaurants downtown while you’re here! You may even want to check out the newest restaurant, Gypsy Bizarre in The Maze. Everyone is invited to come experience the city’s art, music, food, wares and crafts. Maps and playbills detailing the evening’s events will be available at participating locations.
