Local law enforcement were called to a  bomb threat at the Ninth Grade Academy on North Lee Street shortly after 4 p.m. Tuesday. Students in the school at the time were evacuated to “a safe location” in an adjacent practice field.

Sumter County Sheriff’s Chief Deputy, Col. Eric Bryant, was on scene and told the Times-Recorder that a student had made a comment about a bomb around lunchtime and the matter had just come to the attention of school administration, which notified law enforcement.

Two parents were on site, wondering where their children were. Bryant told them no one had been hurt and they know who the student is who made the comment.
