Retires early from Sheriff’s Office
I have announced that I will be taking early retirement effective on April 1, 2018. I have served under the administration of three different Sheriffs’: Howard, Ingle, and Smith.
I have enjoyed my years of service to the citizens of Sumter County. However, I feel that under the circumstances involving reports of misconduct by one or more members of the Sheriff’s Staff and others and because I am unable to answer the many embarrassing questions asked of me by citizens visiting the courthouse, I feel that now is the time to leave.
I am frustrated over not being able to correct what I feel is improper conduct by certain officers, although I have tried. In addition, I am frustrated that the rumors of improper conduct have reflected badly on the current administration and all personnel of the Sheriff’s Office.
My regret is that I will miss my many friends at the Courthouse: Judges, attorneys, department heads and their staff, the citizens who visit the courthouse, and the men and women of the Civil Division. It has been my pleasure to work with all of you.
