Confederate Memorial Day event is Saturday

AMERICUS — The Alexander H. Stephens Camp, Sons of Confederate Veterans, hosts a Confederate Memorial Day program at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 28 at Oak Grove Cemetery.

Featured speaker is Jack B. Hinton Jr. (Jay) of Hinton & Associates, Montgomery, Ala. Hinton attended Mississippi College in Clinton, Miss., before earning a bachelor of science in political science in 1987, from Mississippi State University. In 1990, he earned a juris doctorate from the Cumberland School of Law at Samford University.

Hinton’s vast resume indicates that he is a member of the Sons of the American Revolution, Sons of Confederate Veterans (Commander R.E. Lee Camp), president of the Horace King Memorial Foundation Inc., as well as a multitude of other distinguished affiliations.

His law practice is confined to the defense of civil litigation and related matters.

Also on the program Saturday will be the announcement of the winner of the Confedessay contest, sponsored by the local SCV Camp, and the winner will read his/her essay. The Camp Honor Guard will fire a volley and the 12th Georgia Muckalee Guards will be in attendance.

The public is invited.
