ATLANTA — Sen. Greg Kirk (R-Americus) was recently appointed to serve as a member of the Senate Study Committee on the Excessive and Duplicative Regulatory Oversight of Community Based Intellectual and Developmental Disability (IDD) Services and as a member of the Senate Study Committee on Local Government Fees.
“I am honored to have been appointed to serve as a member on both of these committees,” said Kirk. “There are currently too many obstacles in the way for individuals and families of individuals with disabilities to receive the services they need and by reviewing in depth the process it takes to help these individuals, I am confident that we will find solutions to streamline efficient procedures. In addition, government fees are another important topic faced by all taxpayers. The findings in this study committee will help us to address the fees that we as citizens see and best determine who should be responsible for paying them. Both of these study committees address pressing issues and I look forward to creating legislation that helps alleviate some of the issues faced by Georgians.”
The Senate Study Committee on the Excessive and Duplicative Regulatory Oversight of Community Based Intellectual and Developmental Disability (IDD) Services was created through the passage of Senate Resolution 506 during the 2018 Legislative Session. This study committee will review current IDD services, assessments and certifications to address more efficient service systems for a variety of needs pertinent to individuals. The Senate Study Committee on Local Government Fees was created through the passage of Senate Resolution 1170 during the 2018 Legislative Session and will review certain government fees and who should be responsible for paying these fees. Both committees must report findings on or before December 1, 2018. In addition to these two appointments, Kirk continues to co-chair the COPS Task Force with Lt. Governor Cagle that began its work last year. The task force is working to increase the compensation of police officers and deputy sheriffs across the state.
