Schley 4-H’ers attend Camp Fortson
Skylar Stowe and Mackenzie Pugh, Junior 4-H’ers from Schley County, traveled to Camp Fortson 4-H Center near Atlanta to attend Summer Camp the week of July 9-13.
They enjoyed a fun-filled week where they participated in classes and events that they will remember or years to come.
Every camper had the opportunity to participate in one of the best Ropes Courses in the Metro Atlanta Area: They climbed the climbing wall and sipped down the zip line.
There were classes on herpetology and wilderness survival. Thw spent a day at White Water Park, and that evening went to Stone Mountain to see the Laser Show.
After spending days in the hot Georgia sun, they participated in wet games which was fun. They also enjoyed the House at Georgia Aquarium and World Coca-Cola where they were able to test the Coke recipes for around the world.
Both 4-H’ers had fun beyond compare and are ready for next year.

Ellaville-Schley Historical Society
auction committee meets
The Ellaville-Schley County Historical Society Auction Committee held its first meeting July 17 at the Schley County Courthouse.
This is one of the busiest times of the year for the historical society in planning the annual auction. The community and surrounding areas really enjoy this special event. If you’ve never attended you need to make plans to come this year.
This will be on Sept. 15 at the American Legion in Ellaville. The event includes the annual Quilt Raffle, 50/50 Raffle, Gun Raffle (Ruger K 10/22 Long Rifle Automatic), and a singing featuring Lonesome Road Blue Grass Christian Band from 5-7 p.m. There will also be a Car Show.
The annual Barbecue Supper prior to the Auction is at 7 p.m. The raffles will be held during the auction. Cake sales will be held that night.
All proceeds go to help preserve local history. If any business or individual wants to make a donation, it’s tax deductible. You do not have to be a member to make a donation. When items come up for auction the auctioneer well tell who the donor is.
This is our biggest fund raiser every year.
You may purchase tickets from Ellaville Floral Shop, Gill’s Drugs, and The Pizza Place.
