The Southland Academy students had lots of fun learning their way around the kitchen. Under the guidance of Southland Academy teacher, Alison Humphrey and her helpers, the students had a fabulous culinary experience. Campers learned about making healthy choices, good manners, and safe, clean kitchen practices. They enjoyed the hands-on exploration of science in cooking including ‘do-it-yourself’ snacks! Campers made personal pizzas from scratch, decorated desserts, and conducted a kitchen experiment. The cross curriculum culinary experience included science, math, language arts, history, geography, cultural arts, and more. Throughout the week, the campers ‘traveled’ through countries learning about and cooking foods of different cultures. Not only did they learn more about the foods in our own USA, but also the delectable recipes of Mexico, Italy, and France. Of course, they were able to savor their delicious creations. Summer has never been so much fun! Shown from left are Davis Holloway, Nikki Remollino, and Braylee Campbell.
