Lady Hurricanes notch back-to-back wins on the road

MOBILE, AL – The GSW Women’s Soccer Team earned back-to-back wins on the road. First, they defeated Southern Wesleyan 3-2 in double overtime in Central, SC on Wednesday, September 5. Then they traveled to Mobile, AL on Sunday, September 9, and defeated Spring Hill College 2-1. After going winless in 2017, the Lady Hurricanes are now 2-1 on the season.

In the fourth minute of the match, Ella Hawkins got her second goal of the season as she scored from four yards out with an assist from Eduarda Giusti, putting GSW on the board with an early 1-0 lead.

Spring Hill got the equalizer when Devin Fry scored from the low, far post in the 21st minute.

GSW regained the lead in the 34th minute when Emily Collum her first goal of the season to give the Lady Hurricanes a 2-1 lead. Collum scored off an assist by Allison Rugel.

In the second half, Spring Hill had 12 shots, but they were not able to get the equalizer.

As a result, GSW secured their second victory of the season. Spring Hill had more shots (18) and corner kicks (11) than did the Lady Canes. GSW had nine shots and three corner kicks in the match. Both teams had a total of six shots-on-goal.

Since joining the NCAA in 2006, this is the second time the Lady Hurricanes have won back-to-back non-conference matches to open the season.

GSW will host Middle Georgia State for their first home game on Wednesday, September 12. This game will be under the lights and will begin at 7:30 p.m.
