Sumter County EMA is opening a shelter at First Baptist Church located at 221 S Lee St., Americus intended for the local homeless population and those that live in mobile homes that are not safe. The shelter will be open by 3 p.m. Wednesday.

Sumter County has issued a mandatory curfew from 5 p.m. Wednesday-9 a.m. Thursday.

It is recommended that if you have family members that live north of Macon that you may want to seek shelter with them. THIS IS NOT A MANDATORY EVACUATION.

Sumter County is now under a Hurricane Watch. This means that we can anticipate stronger winds and more rain. We are anticipating many trees down, many trees on houses, and wide-spread power outages.
