Large numbers of trees were downed in Americus during the hours of heavy rains and high winds brought by Hurricane Michael Wednesday night and early Thursday. The watch was lowered to a tropical storm Thursday a.m.

As Michael churned on through Georgia, locals were already out early with chain saws, clearing debris left in the wake of the powerful storm.

The sun even peeked through the clouds mid-morning. Neighbors were helping neighbors.

Falling trees also brought down power lines and most of the city remained without power as of  9:30 a.m.
