Souther Field to mark 100 years this weekend

AMERICUS — Despite a chance of rain Saturday afternoon, the Historic Souther Field Centennial Open House and Fly-In is still on for 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. A couple of historic planes will be unable to fly in but everything is set to go.
There will be airplane and helicopter rides available, as well as kids’ activities like Dry Slide, Bouncy House and face painting, And Americus Fire & Emergency Services will have some special treats.
There will also be food such as barbecue from 19th Street South, Dawson’s Farmhouse for burgers and hot-dogs, with snow cones and cotton candy from Trey Harmon.
For the history buff, there will be a large array of historic photographs and memorabilia of Souther Field on display.
There will also be live music from Taylor Welch from 3-5 p.m., and Sumter Humane Society will have puppies and kittens up for adoption.
