AMERICUS — The City of Americus has hired a temporary, part-time administrative assistant, Cheri Tullis, for the Main Street Department. The purpose of this position is to provide temporary assistance to the program coordinator until a decision is made to fill the Main Street director position.
Cheri Lott Tullis was born on Nov. 2, 1981, in San Antonio, Texas. She grew up in a small town north of San Antonio called Boerne. She attended all her educational institutes in Boerne and was often awarded for perfect attendance. She was a very active child participating in dance (ballet, jazz, tap, and pop), soccer, gymnastics, choir, and church children programs. She was an active member in First Baptist Church Boerne. She was involved in plays, choir, and all vacation bible schools.
During her youth she traveled with the youth programs to Mexico and built a church, and also traveled to Colorado to put on a Vacation Bible School for some children there. She enjoyed participating with the youth in every opportunity giving back to the community and others throughout the United States. While in middle school she participated in Pep Squad and dance, with a lot of school spirt and town pride. Then in her high school career she was involved in choir, photography, and academic decathlons. Tullis has always given back to her community and those in need, taking the time to be involved whenever she could do something to help.
In May 2000, she graduated from Boerne High School. She then began working full-time at Broadway Bank and part-time at the church nursery. She had a great support system through family and her church home that guided her to always strive to do her absolute best. In 2002, she moved to San Antonio. She is always willing to learn new things and it showed through all her job performances. Working in several different career avenues she has acquired years of wonderful job attributes and skills.
For example: She worked for years at a car dealership as a receptionist and office help runner, learning about car sales, taxes, finance, and processing the tags for each sale. While there she created an inventory system for new and used cars that she performed monthly. This gave her great customer service skills and confidence to interact with owners and upper management. After moving to San Antonio, she worked as a contract administrative assistant for a staffing company that was two companies owned and operated by the same team. She worked closely with the owner preparing bids to win contracts for companies and organizations to use their services for staffing needs. Sharpening her customer service skills and problem management, she worked in several fast food environments as a head cashier or team leader. Due to her excellent service, she was asked to provide training for new employees.
Before moving away, she worked as an office assistant for an air conditioning and plumbing company, learning about different air conditioning units, and what all it takes to install the entire assembly, also processing finance through several third-party companies. She assisted with inventory and bookkeeping, managed files, and kept office organized for best efficiency.
On Aug. 14, 2016, she met the love of her life — Travis and they soon become one. Then on Feb. 14, 2018, they were married. As all their children set out on college and life paths, Travis and Cheri made a decision to move from Texas. In August 2018, they set out cross country to move back to Travis’s hometown of Americus. They were wel welcomed by tons of family, blessed with a home, and career opportunities that they love.
