River Valley Regional Commission (RVRC) is a recipient of The Georgia Municipal Association (GMA) Health Promotion and Wellbeing Grant Program for Fiscal Year 2019. This grant gives RVRC employees the ability to develop and to manage new or healthier existing workplace health promotion and wellness programs. The GMA Wellness Grant also gives employees a feeling of ownership as we work together to form an agreeable action plan to improve health and well-being. Subjects such as health promotion, fitness, recreation, tobacco and alcohol awareness, and workplace safety are all areas where health promotion in the workplace is effective. Implementing such a program at the RVRC gives employees an awareness of being more than just a number.
Wellness programs and general health promotion in the workplace shows employees that the organization understands that both the employer and the employee share some level of accountability for the employee’s health. It reveals to the employee that their health is of significance worth to the organization. Healthier employees mean less absences and a reduce turnover rate.
