(Nov. 29-Dec. 18)

• Firefighters responded to 60 calls for medical assistance.
• Firefighters responded to a vehicle fire on Bumphead Road. There was no fire but an engine malfunction resulted in smoke.
• Firefighters responded to West Lamar Street to an alarm. It was determined that steam from someone taking a shower had activated it.
• Firefighters responded to South Lee Street to a report of a gas leak. The occupant told fire personnel that while he was attempting to repair his bedroom gas long fireplace he realized the unit was leaking. Upon investigation, they determined the gas had to be shut off and contacted the Gas Department.
• Firefighters responded to Lonnie Lane to a report of a possible structure fire. They found a small amount of smoke from cooking.
• Firefighters responded to an alarm on Harris Street. The alarm was activated by cooking, and there was no fire.
• Firefighters responded to an alarm on West Furlow Street which was activated by a cooking incident.
• Firefighters responded to an alarm on Madison Street which was activated by a cooking incident.
• Firefighters responded to Kennedy Way to a report of a car stuck in a small pond. They found car in about three feet of water with an unharmed driver inside.
• Firefighters responded to Webber Road and Patton Drive to a report of wires down.
• Firefighters responded to an alarm on North Jackson Street. There were no hazards found.
• Firefighters responded, as automatic aide with Sumter County Fire & Rescue, to a structure fire on U.S. Highway 280 West. Working together, they extinguished the fire.
• Firefighters responded to an alarm on Brookwood Drive which was activated by someone cooking.
• Firefighters responded to an alarm on North Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard. It was accidentally activated.
• Firefighters responded to a gas spill at a business on East Lamar Street. They used a drying agent to remove the small spill.
• Firefighters responded to a report of a strong gas odor on Anthony Street. They found that someone had burned food in a microwave oven.
• Firefighters responded to a vehicle fire on Southland Road.
• Firefighters responded to an outside trash fire on East Forsyth Street. They extinguished it.
• Firefighters responded to a report of a structure fire on Academy Street. They found a small fire smouldering behind a wall and extinguished it. They ventilated the structure and contacted Georgia Power Co.
• Firefighters responded to an alarm on Crisp Drive. No hazards were found.
• Firefighters responded to a report of someone stuck in an elevator at Rees Park Economic Development Center, 409 Elm Ave. Upon arrival, they were told that the elevator was stuck because an electrical cord from a vacuum cleaner was caught in the elevator. They removed the person and reset the elevator.
• Firefighters responded to a traffic accident on Tripp Street.
• Firefighters responded to South Lee Street to a possible structure fire. No hazards were found
• Firefighters responded to an alarm at Sumter County Intermediate School, 915 N. Lee St. It was activated by a technician working on the system.
• Firefighters responded to an alarm on Industrial Boulevard. No hazards were found.
• Firefighters responded to an alarm on Academy Street. There was a problem with the system and occupant was advised to check with an electrician.
• Firefighters responded to a report of a structure fire on East Dodson Street. They found a small fire in a potted plant container, and extinguished it.
• Firefighters responded to an alarm at Central Baptist Church, 190 Upper River Road. It had been accidentally activated by construction workers.
• Firefighters responded to a sprinkler alarm at Lowe’s Home Improvement, 1700 E. Lamar St. It was determined that an employee moving stock in the receiving area had accidentally hit a sprinkler head with a high forklift. There was no fire.
• Firefighters responded to a traffic accident on Ga. Highway 30 West,
• Firefighters responded to an alarm, as automatic aide for Sumter County Fire & Rescue, to South Forty Circle. It had been activated by a damper on a fireplace that failed to open.
• Firefighters responded to an alarm on Sharon Circle where someone taking a shower had activated the alarm.
• Firefighters responded to Lonnie Lane where they assisted an invalid.
• Firefighters responded to Lafayette Street to a report of wires down. It was determined that a tree that had been cut down across the street had knocked a cable line from the residence, damaging the weather head on the power line.
• Firefighters responded to a report of a gas odor on Tom Hall Circle. No hazards were found.
• Firefighters responded to Glenwood Road to a report of a possible structure fire. No hazards were found.
• Firefighters responded to a report of a possible structure fire on Pine Avenue. No hazards were found.
