Southland’s McCain and Luke Law lead Raiders to scoreless win

AMERICUS – Southland Academy pitchers Hunter McCain and Luke Law worked together to keep the Trojans of Fullington Academy off the scoreboard and led the Raiders to an 11-0 win on Wednesday, February 27, at Southland Academy.

McCain was the starter for the Raiders. He pitched a little over three innings, giving up three hits and striking out four batters. Luke Law came on in relief for McCain and pitched a little over an inning. Law gave up no hits, walked two and struck out one to complete the victory.

Offensively, the Raiders scored 11 runs on 13 hits and committed no errors, while the Trojans only mustered three hits and committed one error.

SA left fielder Landon Law went 3 for 3 at the plate and scored three runs.

Catcher George Wall also had a solid day hitting. Wall went 2 for 2, scored three runs and drove in a run. Second baseman Freddie Updike went 2 for 3, scored a run and drove in three RBIS.

SA scored five runs in the second and four in the third to take a 9-0 lead. They added two more runs in the fourth inning. The game was run ruled after FA went scoreless in the top of the fifth inning.

The Raiders will host a rematch against Crisp County on Monday, March 4, at 4 p.m. In the last meeting between the two teams, the Raiders fell to the Cougars 3-2 in a low-scoring affair at Crisp County on Friday, February 22.
