AMERICUS — This March, the Huss Foundation’s Artists’ Gallery presents GREEN, a group art exhibition that asks artists to explore their personal association with the term “green.” GREEN runs through March 15.
Twelve local artists are featured in the show: Laura J. Bauer, Americus; Elise Betrus, Americus; Valerie Duff, Leslie; Jesse Durham, Americus, Robert A. Grissett, Americus; Robin Humphreys, Americus; Jane Myers, Americus; Barry J. McConatha, Americus; Courtenay Puckett, Americus; Jordan Walker, Preston; Thomas Weber, Americus; and Charles Woolbright Jr., Cordele.
The show features a variety of media, including glass, textile, paintings, and photography. It was curated by local artist and 2019 kickstART recipient, Sunni Zemblowski.
“Artists were asked what ‘green’ means to them,” says Zemblowski. “As a result, we received art that was both a literal interpretation of the call as well as work that has a more playful and divergent association. For example, we are showing a green quilt by Valerie Duff, alongside Jesse Durham’s glass work that evokes the feeling of the ocean.”
The kickstART program is organized and operated solely by the Huss Foundation, a 501(c)(3) private foundation. The primary mission of the Huss Foundation is to promote knowledge, appreciation for art and happiness within the Americus and greater Sumter County community.
This is the second year of the Huss Foundation’s kickstART program, which seeks to assist local creative people in developing their artwork while building a sustainable art business. As the 2019 kickstART recipient, Zemblowski manages and curates the Artists’ Gallery. In addition to the normal gallery hours, the gallery is open every First Friday, and the Huss Foundation provides free drinks and hot dogs to all guests.
The Huss Foundation’s Artists’ Gallery is located at 124 W. Lamar St., Suite C and is open to the public. The gallery hours are 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday through Friday, and 10 a.m.-1 p.m. Saturday.
