AMERICUS — Over last weekend, Georgia Southwestern State University’s (GSW) Residence Hall Association (RHA) placed third in the Most Spirited Delegation at the Georgia Residence Hall Organization (GHRO) annual conference in Milledgeville. The conference, held at Georgia College, united RHAs from all over the University System of Georgia to learn how to improve life for on-campus residents. GRHO is a student-led organization that promotes leadership training, honoring diversity and engaging student leaders. GRHO pledges to support and advocate the interests of USG college and university residents.
“I’m so proud of everything that these students have accomplished,” said Jill Hohnecker, assistant director of Residential Living. “Our RHA hasn’t been active on campus for the last few years and to see everything they have done since August to help this organization grow is incredible. They’ve had such a great impact on students and really want to make the residential experience the best it can be for students. This award is a testament to their dedication.”
Jared McCallister, a GSW sophomore from Ellaville, said, “Our RHA is all about developing our leadership skills so we can serve our residents to the best of our abilities and make their college residency comfortable and more like home. After we got to the conference, we were jolted into a world of huge schools, chanting, and leadership. We learned all about cool programs we could try out. We learned how to better contribute to our RHA and make it more successful on our campus. We learned how other schools run their RHAs to make their college more enjoyable and fun.”
