Schley County Family Connection plans next meeting
The Schley County Family Connection holds its monthly meeting at noon on Thursday, April 25 the Thomas Edwin Wall Post 191 American Legion.
April is Child Abuse Prevention month. A guest speaker will present the program on special information from Liberty House of Albany.
All members are asked to have their reports ready to present as always.

Easter crosses placed in downtown Ellaville
The Ellaville Rainbow Garden Club has placed three wooden crosses in front of the Ellaville City Center to help with the celebration of Easter. The crosses were made by Jimmy Harrison for this special occasion.

Schley County 4-H Club has a reminder
This is the last week the Schley County 4-H Club will be taking orders for its yearly sale of Vidalia onions.
A 10-pound bag is $10, and the proceeds go to help all the 4-H’ers attend camp each year.
If you would like to order some Vidalia onions, call Brenda Welch at the Schley County Extension Office at 229-937-1180.

Schley County 4-H’ers attend Senior Conference
Schley County 4-H’ers attended the Senior Conference on April 6-7 at the beautiful Rock Eagle 4-H Center. This special event is better known as the “4-H Prom” with 576 in attendance.
4-H’ers arrived from all across the state for a weekend of fun. Attending from Schley County were Lily Harbuck and Anna Trussell.
All 4-H’ers met in the auditorium for assembly where they heard from a fantastic speaker, Bob Mackey with MM-Powering Choices, giving a motivational speech empowering 4-H’ers to believe and achieve — a very impressive speech.
Afterward, the audience was dismissed to go and dress for the 4-H’ers Prom. Young men in their tuxedos and young women in their formal gowns were beautifully dressed for this special event.
A delicious formal dinner was served by the Rock Eagle staff, after which the dance was held. 4-H’ers were introduced by Al Parker, DED for Northeast District, and the King and Queen were announced. They were John Henry Walker from Cook County (for the second consecutive year) and Lavender Harris from Newton County.
The night did not end with the dance. There was another party. The 4-H’ers changed from their formal clothing to more comfortable outfits to enjoy everything from mechanical bulls, Whack -A-Mole, an obstacle course, basketball and board games. There was something for everyone.
Also attending from Schley County was Brenda Welch, secretary and 4-H Program assistant.
