AMERICUS – The Georgia Southwestern State University baseball team will be the eighth seed in the upcoming Peach Belt Conference Baseball Tournament to be held Friday through Saturday, May 10-12, at Drysdale Field on the campus of Flagler College in St. Augustine, FL.

The Hurricanes’ opening-round game will be on Friday, May 10, against the University of North Georgia (UNG). On Saturday, May 11, GSW will play a doubleheader against Georgia College and Young Harris College.

GSW finished the season with an overall record of 21-29 and a 14-16 record in the PBC. It is a tremendous improvement from a year ago. In 2018, GSW finished with an overall record of 10-35 and a PBC record of 5-25. They did not qualify for the PBC Tournament in 2018. The last time the Hurricanes appeared in the PBC Tournament was during the 2017 season. That year, GSW went 20-29 overall and finished with a PBC record of 10-14. In the PBC Tournament that year, the Hurricanes went 1-2. They lost to UNG in the first round, but defeated Columbus State in the first elimination game before UNG beat them again to eliminate them from the tournament.

The top eight teams in the PBC were split into two pools. Pool A will feature the No. 1, 4, 5 and 8 seeds while Pool B will have the No. 2, 3, 6 and 7 seeds. During the tournament, teams will play all other teams in their pool. The top team in each pool will meet for a winner-take-all championship game on Sunday, May 12.

All eight teams will play one game on Friday at Drysdale Field. On Saturday, Pool B will remain at Flagler, while Pool A will move to St. John’s River State College in Palatka, FL. All teams will play two games on Saturday to complete pool play. Sunday’s championship game will be held at Flagler College.

GSW will be in Pool A along with UNG, Young Harris College and Georgia College. Pool B will consist of Flagler College, USC Aiken, Columbus State and Francis Marion University.
