• Firefighters responded to 10 calls for medical assistance.
• Firefighters responded to a traffic accident on Hawkins Street.
• Firefighters went to West Lester Street where they assessed a residence of what was needed. They advised homeowner to replace old smoke alarms. They installed on smoke alarm in the hallway to provide detection in the meantime.
• Firefighters responded to a traffic accident on Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard.
• Firefighters responded to an alarm on South Jackson Street. Occupant advised he hit a pull station by accident and there was no fire.
• Firefighters responded to a report of something burning in the roadway on East Forsyth Street. They found a vape battery in the roadway that wasn’t smoking or burning, and removed it.
• Firefighters responded to Fairfield Avenue to a report of a gas odor. No hazards were found.
• Firefighters responded to Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard to a report of gas odor. No hazards were found.
• Firefighters responded to a report of a tree down and blocking traffic on Harrold Avenue. Upon arrival, Georgia Power was already on scene and had deactivated the power lines. Fire personnel, along with Public Works, used a chainsaw to clear limbs from the roadway.
• Firefighters responded to Super Shop, 1505 N. Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd., to a report of a gas spill. The gas station attendant advised that a car at a pump had begun leaking gasoline from its underside and the car had been moved to a far side parking lot. Oil dry was placed in the ground to remove gasoline and the leak soon stopped. Car owner said it was a fuel pump-related problem that could be fixed at the station.
• Firefighters responded to Forrest Street to a report of smoke inside a residence. The occupant told them he had been cooking and fell asleep, and burned food had smoked the residence. The unit was ventilated by fire personnel.
• Firefighters responded to an alarm on Basket Factory Road. Upon investigation, no smoke or fire were found. Sumter County Fire & Rescue arrived. A pumping house was observed flowing water. The scene was left with Sumter County.
• Firefighters responded to Eastview Drive in response to an alarm. The occupant was testing it and accidentally activated it.
