Scam artists at work here

AMERICUS — The Sumter County Sheriff’s Office issued a scam alert on Thursday. According to the press release, citizens should be aware that individuals are contacting citizens and claiming to be a representative of the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office.
These individuals are telling people they have an outstanding warrant or outstanding fines, and advising them that payment be made immediately by purchasing money packs and providing them with the numbers on the back.
The sheriff’s office reminds citizens to never provide their Social Security number, credit card, banking information, or driver’s license information to anyone over the telephone.
The press release stresses that no one from the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office will ever contact citizens by phone in reference to warrants, fines or fees.
