CUSSETA — The Commission of the Unified Government of Cusseta-Chattahoochee County voted to hire Laura Lee Bernstein as the new county manager during its monthly meeting on July 2.  Bernstein served as the chief administrative officer for the City of Americus in 2013 and 2014, and ran unsuccessfully for mayor against current Mayor Barry Blount in November 2017.  She has continued to work directly and indirectly with local business and industry, and has served as a teacher, counselor, trainer, and leader for a variety of stakeholders. Bernstein had been serving as the CTAE Director (Career, Technical & Ag Education) for Chattahoochee County Schools since 2017.

“I am excited about this new opportunity and look forward to begin working with the commissioners,” said Bernstein. “I have spent the past two years working with the youth of this community and developed a real fondness for the county. I see the potential for a lot of great opportunities in this community and want to help contribute and assist the commissioners with making those opportunities a reality. I believe that I bring a unique combination of strengths, skills, and experience that will enable me to create real value for Cusseta-Chattahoochee County.”

Bernstein will begin in her new role as county manager on July 15.
