SGTC National Technical Honor Society inducts new members

AMERICUS — The South Georgia Technical College chapter of the National Technical Honor Society (NTHS) inducted four new members in a ceremony in the John M. Pope Industrial Technology Center on the Americus campus recently. Chester Taylor, NTHS advisor, presided over the ceremony.
Noa James of Coffeville, Ala.; Alex Chadwick of Lawrenceville, Ga.; Kellin Cuevas of Kiln, Miss.; and Caleb Smith of Dadeville, Ala.; all students in the heavy equipment dealer’s service technology Caterpillar program, were inducted into the SGTC chapter of the National Technical Honor Society (NTHS) at the ceremony.
In order to receive this honor, students must be nominated by an instructor, be a full-time student at SGTC for at least one complete term, and have a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.75. There is a one-time $30 membership fee.
The student must also demonstrate leadership abilities and display a commendable attitude, good mentality, worthy character, credible achievement, and a desire to pursue a career in the field of his or her technical study.
NTHS Advisor Taylor explained the purpose of the National Technical Honor Society to inductees and ceremony attendees.
A candle lighting ceremony was conducted by NTHS co-advisor Jasmine Mercer and Taylor. During the candle lighting ceremony, eight candles were lit representing knowledge, skill, honesty, service, responsibility, scholarship, citizenship, and leadership.
Taylor also presented the members with certificates and pins and the students recited the National Technical Honor Society Pledge.
The Society has recognized outstanding student achievement in workforce education since 1984. Over 1,500 schools and colleges throughout the U.S. and its territories are affiliated with the NTHS. Induction into NTHS is a benchmark — the highest award for excellence in workforce education in America.
