In the November 27 edition of the Americus Times-Recorder, an article was written by me, Ken Gustafson, sports editor for the ATR, about a special ceremony at Georgia Southwestern State University that took place on Monday, November 25, to honor the late Ricky Burgess, the legendary GSW play-by-play broadcaster who served in that capacity with distinction for 45 years.
In that article, I wrote that Ricky Burgess had two grandsons, Daniel Simpson and Nathan Simpson, that presented the game ball to the officials before the Hurricanes tipped off against Brewton-Parker College. While that was true, I failed to mention that Burgess’s other grandson, Walker Burgess, also participated in presenting the game ball to the officials. Walker Burgess is the son of Scott Burgess, Ricky Burgess’s son.
From the bottom of my heart, I truly apologize for this error and oversight. From this point onward, I will endeavor to make sure that all facts are reported correctly, precisely and without error. We take our responsibility in reporting the truth extremely seriously and we will do our best to make sure that such an error in judgement never happens again.
Sincerely
Ken Gustafson
