CHARLOTTE, NC – South Georgia Technical College (SGTC) Lady Jets rising sophomore center Femme Sikuzani has been selected to the 2019 – 2020 NJCAA Women’s Basketball Coaches Association All-Star team. Niya McGuire, who played for Tyler Junior College in Texas last season, was also selected. McGuire is transferring to SGTC to play for the Lady Jets as a sophomore this coming fall.

“I am excited for both Femme and Niya,” said SGTC Lady Jets’ head coach James Frey. “Femme had a fantastic freshman year and has put in a lot of work to make herself stronger and more athletic. She’s spent a lot of time of skill development and I can’t wait to see all of this work on display next season. She is very deserving of this honor.”

Frey is also excited about having McGuire join the team this coming season. “Niya is a transfer from Tyler Junior College in Texas, which is a top 15 program every year,” said Frey. “She is a very skilled power forward/small forward who has a chance to be one of the best players in our conference. She has been impressive in our Zoom discussions and is very intelligent. I’ve enjoyed watching her freshman year film and she was very highly recommended to me by Coach Tillis at Tyler.”

A total of 50 exceptionally talented athletes who are entering their sophomore year after competing at an NJCAA member school for the 2019 – 2020 season were selected. This year’s group of honorees features 33 Division I, 12 Division II, and five Division III student-athletes across 42 various NJCAA institutions.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the 13^th annual NJCAA Women’s Basketball Coaches Association All-Star event had to be cancelled.

NJCAA Women’s Basketball Coaches Association President Brandan Harrell commended the 50 All-Star recipients. “On behalf of the NJCAA Women’s Basketball Coaches Association, we would like to congratulate the 2020 NJCAA WBB CA All Star and Hall of Fame event participants,” said Harrell. “It deeply saddens us that we will not be able to honor these participants this year at our annual event. They have worked very hard during their freshman year to be selected to represent their institutions, their regions, and the NJCAA. However, this is still a great honor and we will do our present to promote these deserving student-athletes. I want to thank all of the NJCAA Women’s Basketball Coaches that nominate their deserving student-athletes,” Harrell continued.

The Lady Jets finished the 2019 – 2020 season with a 17 – 0 conference record and a 30 – 2 overall record. They qualified for the NJCAA National Tournament, but were unable to compete due to the cancellation of the tournament due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Sikuzani played in all 32 games for the Lady Jets this season and started 29 of them. She averaged 10.6 points per game and shot 65 percent from the free throw line. Sikuzani was a 55 percent shooter from the field and averaged 1.4 blocks, 1.1 steals and 10.8 rebounds per game.

McGuire played in 31 games at Tyler Junior College last season and average 9.4 points per game. She shot 59.4 percent from the field and helped lead her team to a 23 – 9 overall record and a 13 – 6 conference record during the 2019 – 2020 season.
