Hurricanes defeat Jaguars 69-64

AMERICUS – The Georgia Southwestern State University men’s basketball team defeated in state rival Augusta University 69-64 Saturday night at the Storm Dome.

With the win, GSW improves its home record to 6-1.

The Jaguars carried the momentum early, outscoring the Hurricanes 36-28 in the first half. GSW made adjustments and was able to outscore the Jaguars in the second half to seal the victory.

Jalen Johnson added another record to his storied GSW career, as he tallied a new career-high 29 points. He connected on seven of his 14 shot attempts and made four of his eight three point shots. Johnson also hauled in five boards and dished out four assists. Johnson has reached double-digit points in three consecutive games. He leads all GSW players with 12 games scoring in double figures.

JaKwon Moore had an impressive game for the Hurricanes. He scored 15 points and made six of his 13 shots. Moore also collected four rebounds, tallied four steals, dished out five assists and had five blocks.

The final GSW player to score in double figures was Jaylen Jordon. He recorded 10 points on five of six shot attempts. Jordon also recorded four blocks and four rebounds. Jordon has scored in double figures in two consecutive games.

With the win, the Hurricanes snapped a five game losing streak to the Jaguars.

Georgia Southwestern (12-4, 4-2 PBC) will start a two game road trip, facing North Georgia (8-8, 1-5 PBC) at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday night from the Convocation Center.
