Sumter County tennis teams earn split against Hawkinsville

AMERICUS – The Sumter County boys and girls tennis teams (SCHS) were able to earn a split against Hawkinsville (HHS) on Thursday at the Sumter County tennis facility. The Lady Panthers lost their match 3-2, but the Panthers earned a 5-0 shutout.

In girls’ action, Georgia Wooden got things started off right for the Lady Panthers by winning a hard-fought match over Alicia Newman 1-6, 7-5, 10-5. The Lady Panthers’ T’Meia Shootes tried her best to put SCHS up 2-0, but lost to Rheghan Poweers 1-6, 7-6, 3-10. In the third singles match, Aniyah Eberhardt lost to Nisha Patel in straight sets 1-6, 1-6.

In girls’ doubles action, the SCHS duo of Carolyn Campbell and Autumn Bryant lost to the HHS duo of Emmi England and Jessie Pham in straight sets 3-6, 3-6, but the other SCHS team of Sydney Griffin and Kalee Roe defeated the HHS team of Dari Griffin and Thanh Muynh in straight sets 6-4, 6-2.

In boys’ action, The Panthers got their team match started off right when Chandler Lyles defeated Gage Williamson in a hard-fought contest 4-6, 6-1, 11-9. The #2 singles player for the Panthers, Jayden Wooden, defeated Brynnon Bell in straight sets 6-0, 6-0. The Panthers were able to clinch the team match when Chris Ingram won on a forfeit.

In boys’ doubles action, the SCHS duo of Eric Bryant and Devor Pina defeated the HHS team of Tra Porter and Raymond Gammage 4-6, 6-2, 10-5. In the other doubles match, the SCHS team of Jacorey Wright and Camien Williams defeated the HHS duo of RC Lee and Josh Killings in straight sets 6-0, 6-0.
