GSW Baseball Team Sweeps USC Aiken

AMERICUS – The Georgia Southwestern State University Baseball Team (GSW) earned a three-game sweep over USC Aiken this past weekend. They won Game 1 by the score of 6-5 on Friday, 11-1 on Saturday in seven inning and 23-3 in seven innings on Sunday.

In Game 1 on Friday, Paul Hageman led the GSW offense by going 3 for 5 at the plate with a double and an RBI and Matthew Manuel went 2 for 4 with an RBI. Noah Roberts also homered in this game, as he went 2 for 5 with two RBIs and a run scored.

Grant Adams got the win for the Hurricanes in relief (4-3). In a little more than an inning of work, Adams gave up one run with a walk and one strikeout.

In Game 2 on Saturday, the Hurricanes were able to score an 11-1 victory over the Pacers. Jake Blinstrub led the Hurricanes’ offense by going 3 for 5 at the plate and Matthew Manuel went 2 for 4. Corey Lee, Kalvin Alexander and Noah Roberts also had multi-hit games, with Lee and Alexander notching homers in this game.

Rijnaldo Euson got the win for the Hurricanes and improved his record to 3-0. In Six innings of work, he gave up a run on five hits, walked three batters and struck out seven.

In Game 3 of the series on Sunday, the Hurricanes exploded for 11 runs in the bottom of the first inning on their way to a 23-3 shellacking of the Pacers. In this game, four Hurricanes had three hits: George Davis (3 for 3), Brant Deerman (3 for 4), Paul Hageman (3 for 4) and Corey Lee (3 for 4). Davis and Manuel each homered in this game.

Andrew Geiger got the win on the mound for GSW and improved his record to 3-0. In five innings of work, he gave up two runs on three hits, walked two batters and struck out 10.

The sweep puts the Hurricanes at 17-5 overall and 4-2 in the Peach Belt Conference. They will step out of PBC play when they host Valdosta State on Tuesday at 6 p.m.
