17u Duke team outlasts Baylor in DHBC play

The 17u Duke Basketball Team went on a 6-0 run late in the second half and was able to outlast Baylor by the score of 49-41 in the Dwight Harris Boys Club (DHBC) basketball league on Friday, June 21 at the Ninth Grade Academy.

Briceton Terry led the Duke team in scoring with 10 points, Ahmir Nelson had nine points and both Kamarion Campbell and Marcus Harvey each had seven points in the winning cause.

The first half was a hard-fought half between both teams, but Duke had a 24-16 lead at halftime. With about nine minutes left in the second half, the Baylor team was able to cut its deficit to 32-29 on a free throw from Javoris Scott. Then late in the game, Scott made a layup to keep Baylor within three at 39-36.

However, the Duke team went on a 6-0 run that effectively sealed the game, as they would go on to win by the score of 49-41.

Scott led the Baylor team in scoring with 19 points and Chase Evans chipped in nine points in the losing cause.

The DHBC league will continue its regular season for the remainder of June and much of July. After the regular season is over, there will be a postseason tournament in late July to decide a champion in all of the age groups.
