Twelve successful natives of Americus gave back to their community, awarding a $2500 scholarship.

On May 14th at the Americus-Sumter High School (South Campus) Honors Program, twelve members of the Americus Investment Group were in the audience to witness the historic presentation of the first annual scholarship offered by the Americus Investment Group.

A $2500 college scholarship was awarded to James Braxton Davis. Davis plans to attend Valdosta State University in the Fall of 2015. He plans to study sports therapy and medicine and become an athletic trainer. In addition to being an A/B student, Davis is an athlete and a civic minded volunteer.

The Americus Investment Group was formed in 2014, when a group successful men who were born and/or raised in Americus, Georgia came together. With the exception of a few, many of the members reside in the Metropolitan Atlanta area. Most are retired or nearing retirement with long careers in law enforcement, transportation, government, postal service, insurance, accounting and the stock exchange. Several members served in the U. S. Armed Forces and are Vietnam Era Veterans. Many are also childhood veterans of the Civil Rights Movement that touched Americus as well.

Meeting once a month, these men come together to pool their financial resources to invest, learn, earn and prosper in the stock market. Along the way, a suggestion was made to pitch in more funds for an annual scholarship to be awarded to a deserving student in Americus.

Recognizing that it’s better to give than receive, every member of the Americus Investment Group knows how vitally important it is to invest in the future of promising young students in Americus to give back to the community that shaped and molded their future. They all know that there is something very special about Americus.

It can be said that even though most of the group members left their hometown for other places, their hearts still live in Americus.
