PLAINS — Art lovers will have the opportunity to not only take a painting lesson with a renowned artist, but to rub shoulders with celebrities in Plains on Jan. 23.
“Painting, Paula and a President” is a fundraiser to benefit Plains Better Hometown and Friends of Jimmy Carter National Historic Site.
Paula Deen, celebrity chef, and former U.S. President Jimmy Carter share the hobby of painting and for $500, participants can attend a painting class with James Richards, an Atlanta artist. The class will also be attended by Deen and Carter. Class is limited to 50 and runs from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., and includes breakfast and lunch.
The fundraising event continues that evening with the “Saturday  Night Sleepover” with Deen at the Plains Inn. For $2,000, participants can book one of seven rooms in the historic in that Jimmy and Rosalynn Carter helped restore about 10 years ago.
Included in the sleepover package is a dinner with Richards, Deen and Jimmy and Rosalynn Carter, and reserved seats at Maranatha Baptist Church in Plains the following morning when Carter teaches his Sunday school class.
The Windsor Hotel in Americus also offers packages at $1,000 and $1,500, which include overnight accommodations.
