AMERICUS — Georgia Southwestern State University’s master of science in nursing program has been ranked 45th out of the 50 best graduate nursing programs in America by www.topmastersinhealthcare.com.
Using sources like the American Association of College of Nursing and U.S. News and World Report, the healthcare education rankings site examined the qualities that make nursing schools “in demand and accessible.” The scoring methodology weighed the following criteria: flexibility, 45 percent; active faculty, 30 percent; and tuition and fees, 25 percent.
“This ranking is very important for the School of Nursing’s graduate degree program recruitment efforts,” said School of Nursing Dean Sandra Daniel, Ph.D. “In today’s educational market, we know that if we are going to appeal to nurses who are advancing their education, we must offer a program that is of high quality, is flexible and is affordable.”
According to the report, only graduate nursing programs that are CCNE-accredited (Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education) were considered. Each program earned a score out of a possible 200 points, and the top 50 performers were ranked. These schools represent every type of nursing graduate program, from degrees available online and those that are “traditional” in nature. Other schools making the top 50 include Georgia State University, the University of Arkansas, and the University of Mississippi.
Georgia Southwestern’s master of science in nursing program, offered in collaboration with Columbus State University, is offered completely online and features the following degree options: family nurse practitioner, nursing educator, leadership/management and nursing informatics.
