Americus Fire & Emergency Services
• Firefighters responded to 24 calls for medical assistance.
• Firefighters responded to West Glessner Street to a report of heavy smoke and burning odor in the area. They found someone in the neighborhood burning a small fire in a fire pit. No hazards were found.
• Firefighters responded to Pro Nails, 200 Manhattan St., to a report of smoke alarms making a chirping noise. The occupants were told the alarms needed new batteries.
• Firefighters responded to Willis Street to an alarm which was accidentally activated by cooking.
• Firefighters responded to Roney Street where they were told that some kids had started a small fire and run away. Someone else put the fire out.
• Firefighters responded to an alarm on Wildwood Circle which was activated by a child.
• Firefighters responded to a wild land fire on Rucker Street, which they extinguished.
• Firefighters responded to Elm Avenue to a report of a low hanging power line. BellSouth was notified.
• Firefighters responded to East Lester Street to assist an invalid.
• Firefighters responded to Rucker Street where they extinguished a brush fire.
• Firefighters responded to Hancock Drive to a report of an unauthorized burn. They found an approved fire pit with several pieces of wood smoldering, and there were no hazards.
• Firefighters responded to Hanson Drive to a report of a possible structure fire. They found a kitchen cabinet which showed burn marks but no fire. They also found a can of PAM which they believe had flashed and ignited some paper towels on a toaster on the counter next to the stove. Occupants said they had heard an explosion in the kitchen and called 911 before exiting the structure.
• Firefighters responded to a report of a wild land fire on Murphy Mill Road. They found about an acre of land on fire and cut a fire break. Georgia Forestry was called in for assistance.
• Firefighters responded to Rucker Street to a report of smoke in the area. They noted light smoke but found no fire or hazards.
• Firefighters responded to an alarm on Wildwood Circle which was activated by steam from the shower.

• Firefighters responded to a report of wires down at Ga. Highway 377 and South Forty Drive.
• Firefighters responded to a traffic accident on Ga. Highway 30 West.
• Firefighters responded to a traffic accident at U.S. Highway 19 South and Pine Level Road.
• Firefighters responded to a traffic accident at U.S. Highway 280 East and Crumpton Drive.
• Firefighters responded to Stonewall Drive to report of a gas odor.
• Firefighters responded to a smoke alarm on Southwest Circle which was activated by a grease pan left in the oven.
• Firefighters responded to a trash fire on Floyd Road.
• Firefighters responded to Little Bear Branch Road where they assisted in lifting a 75-year-old man.
• Firefighters responded to a traffic accident at Tommy Smith and Leslie Lamar roads.
• Firefighters responded to a burn complaint on Middle River Road. They found everything under control.
• Firefighters responded to a burn complaint on U.S. Highway 19 North. They found everything under control.
• Firefighters responded to Lake Ridge Drive to a report of a gas odor.
• Firefighters responded to Ga. Highways 308 and 49 South where they extinguished a trash fire.
• Firefighters responded to Ga. Highway 49 South to a utility pole fire.
• Firefighters responded to Cobb Cheek Road to a report of a grass fire. Nothing was found.
• Firefighters responded to a traffic accident on U.S. Highway 280 East. No one was found in or around the car.
