AMERICUS — Garrick Rhyme, the suspect in a shooting Monday night on Crawley Street, turned himself in to authorities on Wednesday night.
According to information from the Americus Police Department, officers responded to the shooting shortly before 10:30 p.m. Monday. Upon arrival officers discovered Emanuel King Jr. suffering from a gunshot wound. King was transported to Phoebe Sumter Medical Center and later to the Navicent Medical Center in Macon. His condition had been upgraded from critical to stable as of Friday afternoon, according to authorities.
The department asked the community for its assist¬ance in locating the suspect in the shooting — Garrick Rhyme — and a physical description was disseminated. Police warned the public that Rhyme was considered to be armed and should not be approached.
Rhyme has active warrants relating to this incident for aggravated assault, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, and possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, as well as probation violation.
After turning in to police Wednesday, Rhyme, 25, of 302 Brookdale Terrace, Americus, was booked into the Sumter County Jail.
