ELLAVILLE — Schley County Schools Superintendent, Adam Hathaway, has accepted the superintendent’s position in Tift County. He will assume that role March 1. His last day in Schley County will be Feb. 28.
Hathaway came to Schley County in October 2014, after serving as principal in Gilmer County. Before that, he had served in various roles in White, Ben Hill, Berrien, and Cook counties. He is originally from Clinch County, and earned degrees at Valdosta State, so this move is a sort of return to his roots.
“I am very excited about this transition,” Hathaway said. “It has been almost a decade since my family and I moved from South Georgia, and we are looking forward to returning. We will certainly miss many things about The SC and will always look back fondly on our time here.”
During Hathaway’s tenure at Schley, the board of education has been recognized as one of the top 10 governance teams in the state, having overseen some of the highest test scores in the area and in the state, some of the highest CCRPI scores, and numerous other accomplishments, including several State Championship teams in both academic and athletic arenas.
The Schley County school board has named Brian Hall, who currently serves as Schley County Elementary School principal, as interim superintendent beginning March 1. He will continue to do dual duty as the principal at the elementary school while the board continues discussions about the search process for a new superintendent.
