James W. Turpin: Feb. 19, 2019

AMERICUS — Mr. James William “Bill” Turpin, 91, passed away on Tuesday, Feb. 19, 2019, at his home in Americus.

A native of Americus, he was born Feb. 14, 1928, a son of the late A.B. Turpin and the late Lila Webb Turpin. He was retired from sales at Fox International and worked several years in the mobile home business.

Mr. Turpin was a member of First United Methodist Church of Americus, and also a member of The Alexander H. Stephens Camp 78, Sons of Confederate Veterans, M.B. Council Lodge No. 13, Free & Accepted Masons, Sumter Shrine Club, and Al Sihah Shrine Temple. He was a veteran of the United States Navy, having been stationed in Adak, Alaska.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Ayers B. Turpin Jr., and by his sister, Adrian Dudley.

Survivors include his wife, Elizabeth “Liz” Turner Turpin of Americus; his sister, Stella T. Bridges (Louis) of Americus; two sisters-in-law, Lela Belle Wilson and Faye Knight, both of Americus; his devoted caregivers: Teresa Durham, Brenda Roberts, Gwen Bryant, and Patricia Green; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. on Thursday, Feb, 21, at First United Methodist Church, with Dr. Jerry Roe and the Rev. Bill Dupree officiating. Private entombment followed.

Members of the Epworth Sunday School Class of First United Methodist Church, members of the Sons of Confederate Veterans, and Shriners served as honorary pallbearers.
