AMERICUS — Four arrests have been made in a mid-week shooting in Americus. The Americus Police Department, working with the Georgia Bureau of Investigation’s Region 3 Office, has charged four suspects in a Wednesday, April 10 shooting incident that left two people injured.

Arrested are Xavier Muff, 24,

Desmond Cortez Hamilton, 24,

Christopher Julius Bowens, 24, and

Esco Melly Hurt, 28, all of Americus. All four men are charged with aggravated assault. They are all in jail. Esco Hurt was injured in the incident. He was treated and released from Phoebe Sumter Medical Center. The shooting victim, Octavius Shamun Ross, 24, of Americus, is listed in stable condition at Phoebe Sumter Medical Center.
Americus Police Chief Mark Scott said that additional charges are pending on those already in custody and additional arrests are expected.
Police were first notified at about 4:15 a.m. Wednesday of a gunshot victim having been taken to Phoebe Sumter Medical Center by private vehicle. Officers were not able to speak with the victim due to his condition.
The police chief said shooting is believed to have occurred in the 200 block of Academy Street where officers responded to call about shot fire at approximately 3:45 a.m. Wednesday. Investigators are working with the Region Office of the GBI to determine the circumstances that led up to the shooting and identify all of those involved.
