Shooter sought in Monday drive-by

AMERICUS — Americus Police are searching for a suspect in a shooting that occurred here Monday night.

Officers responded around 11:30 p.m. to a residence at 323 Hosanna Circle, in north Americus, to a report of a person having been shot.

On arrival, officers made contact with Jermaine Allen, age 34, who had a gunshot wound to his leg. Officers learned that Allen had sustained the gunshot wound as a result of shots fired into the residence from an unknown vehicle. No one else in the resident was injured.

Allen was treated by EMS and transported to Phoebe Sumter Medical Center. He was later airlifted to a Macon hospital, according to Maj. Richard McCorkle, chief of criminal investigations division (CID).

McCorkle said his people were out Tuesday morning following up on leads in the case. He stressed that this is an active investigation and asks anyone with information to contact the CID  at 229-924-4550
