AMERICUS — During the investigation into a video shown on social media by a woman claiming to be infected with the HIV virus, investigators with the Americus Police Department (APD) interviewed received Brandi Yakeima Lasiter, 36, of Americus.

On Aug. 2, the APD received forwarded links to a video allegedly posted by a female Americus resident in which the subject states that she has the HIV virus and then names several individuals with whom she says she has had unprotected sex.

Detectives interviewed Lasiter, on Aug. 6 at the police department. According to Maj. Herman Lamar of the APD, Lasiter now says that she does not have the HIV virus and that she made the video because she was angry at the people she named. She provided documentation of a blood test from September 2018, that showed she was not HIV positive. Lamar said Lasiter has voluntarily submitted to a current blood test. The results of this test will determine what, if any,

charges she may be facing in this incident.

Maj. Lamar said one of those named in the video has filed a harassing communications complaint.

Lasiter will be charged with one misdemeanor count of harassing communications.
